From the pivotal moment Christ first uttered these words, the gospel has swept across our planet with a power greater than the mightiest force of nature. No government, no geographical boundary, no obstacle ever devised has succeeded in stopping its advancement. Always resourceful and adaptive, the good news of Jesus Christ has found its way to the ears of every Generation.
The gospel's adaptive work thrives to this day. One such modern adaptation, we believe, is the versatile and powerful medium of radio.
Today, with many parts of the world becoming increasingly hostile to the presence of Christian missionaries, radio represents an even more crucial outreach vehicle than ever before. Today, radio offers a powerful, safe and efficient opportunity to seed God's Word into the world's hardest-to-reach regions. It offers Christians worldwide the opportunity to take the forefront in their country's evangelization and discipleship. It offers a unifying and edifying voice for Christians who are too often isolated and under attack. And even more importantly, radio is sometimes these people's only means of learning more about the Bible and maturing in their faith.
For much of the world, radio is simply the missionary of the future.
As the world's pioneer missionary radio organization,
HCJB World Radio is actively seeking to develop more ways and more places to use
radio in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ ... That All May Hear!
Radio Station HCJB in Quito, Ecuador, also known as the Voice of the Andes, broadcasts to more than 80 percent of the world's landmass with programs in more than 40 major languages and dialects, aired on shortwave transmitters simultaneously around the clock. Our hydroelectric-powered transmitters and antennas carefully target needy areas worldwide with a strong, clear signal, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
Our broadcast capabilities took a quantum leap forward when HCJB World Radio recently joined forces with Trans World Radio to usher in the ALAS satellite network. This innovative network provides the Potential to reach city dwellers throughout the Americas and eventually much of Europe and Africa.
In Ecuador, the host nation of our broadcasting division, we meet people's physical and spiritual needs through two well-equipped modern hospitals, medical training, mobile medical clinics, community services and medical research.
In Quito, HCJB World Radio operates local AM and FM ministries with repeater stations throughout Ecuador. Cooperating ministries include Radio HOXO in Panama and World Radio Network's seven FM stations along the Mexican-U.S. border.
HCJB World Radio works together with Christians throughout the world to share the gospel via local radio in their homelands. We can provide assistance to local stations by providing programming, training, technical expertise and establishing complete radio stations.
In addition, HCJB World Radio produces Christian programs for local television stations.
HCJB World Radio maintains a technical center in Elkhart, Indiana, to develop state-of-the-art broadcast equipment to meet our needs as well as that of other Christian organizations. Dozens of engineers and technicians also serve in Ecuador and other countries to keep the mission's technical equipment in top operating condition.
HCJB World Radio missionaries provide invaluable training for pastors, communicators and broadcasters. in Quito, Ecuador, the mission offers a three-year training program called the Christian Center of Communications. This program is designed to train young Latin Americans in the mass media from a Christian perspective.
Personnel based at HCJB World Radio's international headquarters in
Colorado Springs, along with full-time regional representatives,
missionaries on home ministry assignment and special representatives,
work together to keep our constituents - those standing with us through
prayer and financial support - well informed and involved. Many
resources are available including videos, printed materials, recordings,
special events and tours.
"I never said, 'Now I'm going to be a missionary.' Frankly, I really
wasn't that excited about the administrative load as HCJB World Radio's
president at first - at least not until August 1985. I was on a flight
between Frankfurt and Chicago, preparing a speech for our staff
containing the words, '...communicating with 80 percent of the world.'
It's one of our important catch-phrases. But a voice, as real as
someone sitting right beside me, spoke these words: 'You must
communicate with the whole world.' I honestly believe it was the voice
of God. And all of a sudden, I knew we could do it. My fire was lit.
"I'm still a counselor-pastor-administrator, just like I was before becoming president of HCJB World Radio. Only now I have a vision - the kind of vision anyone can receive the minute they see the opportunities.
"An 85-year-old man came up to me in church in Auckland, New Zealand, with an incredible, peaceful glow on his face. When I told him my impression, he smiled even broader and told me his story. He'd been a devout Communist his whole adult life, a faithful listener to Radio Moscow One day he tuned in and found HCJB programming coming through his receiver. He heard hymns he remembered from his childhood. He heard the gospel. Three days later he dropped to his knees and accepted Christ. And that's why the glow was there.
"I didn't set all this ministry in motion. I'm a latecomer. But one of the great privileges is, I get to come along and see all the glowing faces that result...."

Our commitment to the future consists of meeting three great opportunities.
First, we want to saturate Latin America with the gospel. Although our shortwave signals already cover the Latin world, population shifts to large cities have created an enormous need for local AM and FM broadcasts. The answer: satellite transmissions, allowings us to work with local radio stations to reach city dwellers across the Americas and eventually Europe and Africa.
Second, we're responding to the opening doors in Europe, Asia and Africa. HCJB World Radio's engineers have developed portable studios and transmission equipment that is being used to "plant" new Christian stations and recording sites in these areas. An entire studio can be packed and delivered in a few suitcases!
Finally, we're joining the worldwide effort to take the gospel to the remaining unreached peoples in the world. In 1985 HCJB World Radio joined with other missionary broadcasters in signing the "World by 2000" cooperative agreement. Nearly 80 percent of the earth's population can now tune in Christian programs in a language they can understand. Although we're encouraged by this acheivement, we must redouble our efforts to reach the remaining hardest-to-reach 20 percent.
The opportunities are staggering. With your support God's Word can
be shared throughout the world. Join with us to help fulfill Christ's
Great Commission in our time...
